Laser Launch Telescope subsystem

The laser launch telescope is a 45 cm Magnin reflecting telescope mounted on the optical axis of the Hale Telescope, behind the secondary mirror.

General notes and analysis of LLT collimation and performance

  • Most recent sky test results (24 Aug, 2007 UT)
    • Seeing was stable, 0.5-0.6" FWHM in V.
    • After careful collimation, star images were 1.9" FWHM in LLT Pulnix, using RG610 filter (2.9" FWHM with no filter).
    • Laser spot, observed with AO acquisition camera immediately after, was 2.5" FWHM, highly comatic (diamond ring appearance).
