NGAO Team Meeting #1

Directions: http://www.physics.uci.edu/~barth/ksm2006/NGAOdirections.html

Status of Action Items from Meeting #1 as of 9/20/06: Action Items

Goals:

  • Finalize the System Design phase management plan.
  • Map out the science case requirements development plan.
  • Map out the performance budget development plan.
  • The above 3 goals are part of the process of identifying the path to a system design.

Agenda:

  • 8:20 am Welcome
  • 8:30 am Project Management (Wizinowich to lead)
  • Present, discuss & finalize system design phase plan. The plan should include the deliverables, MS project plan (PDF), major milestones, goals for major meetings, org chart, human interactions, etc.
  • 11 am Science team management (Max to lead)
We will map out the goals & activities for the science team during the SD phase, with particular emphasis on the next 6 months.
  • 12 pm Lunch
  • 1 pm Science requirements & performance budgets
    • 1:00 Introduction to goals & approach for afternoon discussions & where this fits into overall perspective * 1:10 Overview of Plan to develop system requirements through science cases
      • 1:30 Overview of Plan to develop system requirements through performance budgets
Sample cases (chosen because these are big levers on the design and they are ready for discussion; should cover status and plans to achieve system design deliverables):
      • 1:45 Galactic center (Ghez, Cameron, Wizinowich) & astrometry error budget
      • 2:15 Debris disks and binary brown dwarfs (Liu, Macintosh, Neyman) & companion sensitivity/contrast performance budget (30 min)
      • 2:45 Break (15 min)
      • 3:00 Photometry of crowded fields &/or resolved stellar populations and photometry error budget (Dekany, Max) (30 min)
      • 3:30 High redshift Universe and encircled energy performance budget (Max) (30 min)
    • 4:00 Status & plans for simulations in support of science cases & performance budgets, including model assumptions & validation (Neyman, 30 min)
  • 4:30 pm Wrap up & action items
  • 5 pm Done
