Telescope shifting

We will frequently not only provide information for follow-up observation but also have to perform these. For 2018, the most demanding task will be the 20-30 nights of SNIFS observations that we have to cover. These observations are done remotely and mostly automatic, but does require someone to monitor the progress. Occasionally an observation fails and needs to be restarted. More frequently, weather gets bad and the dome has to be closed down. We might have to do additional more or less manual work also for NOT, LCO. We will have to send observers to ePESSTO, or join the reduction crew.

As usual, the task chair is not necessarily supposed to do all the shifting, but rather make sure every shift is covered and that everyone has access to the information needed to perform the observations.

Possible tools:

  • Maintain documentation regarding shifting procedure.
  • Observation schedule and coverage.
