LGS Diagnostic Benches

There are two laser diagnostic benches in development. The first will reside in the coude room therefore measuring properties of the laser as it directly leaves the laser enclosure. The second will reside at the prime focus of the 200" Hale physically attached to the mirror cell of the laser launch telescope (LLT). The LLT bench will measure properties f the laser immediately before collimation and subsequent injection into the sky. The laser diagnostic benches are fed by the Chicago sum 589nm laser and provide the following functionality (1) energy per pulse at coude and at prime focus (2) shear plate collimation at coude (3) near and far field profiles at coude and at prime focus and (4) provide a 10 by 10 wavefront map at prime focus. In addition the LLT diagnostic bench must (5) incorporate the quadrant cell detector Q3 and accessories (6) incorporate the fast steering uplink tip/tilt mirror M5 and (6) incorporate a sky viewing camera with 3 modes of operation that is used to boresight the LLT to the 200inch Hale telescope.
GigE communication speed is designed into the system linking the benches to the control computer with a 1000BaseT connection. It is hoped that this is adequate enough to provide realtime transfer of analog images from the many (6 or more) CCIR cameras.
