The role of the scanner will be to weed out the clearly bad streaks from the streak detection page. As of late January 2019, this will be done in the during the (California) night by team members in Europe/Taiwan (based on availability), and again in the (California) morning to finish any scanning not done during the night. The goal is to eventually have scanning done near continuously by team members in different time zones.

The role of the scanner will be to weed out the clearly bad streaks from the streak detection page. As of mid-August 2019, this will be done during the (California) night by team members in Europe/India/Taiwan (based on availability), and again in the (California) morning to finish any scanning not done during the night. Team members who will be scanning during the California night should sign up under the "Night Scanner Name" column; likewise team members who will be scanning during the California morning should sign up under the "Morning Scanner Name" column. We use UT date for scanning sign up to facilitate international collaboration. Conveniently, all the data in a night are collected on the same UT date.

For the purposes of this sign up sheet, the switch over from "Night" to "Day" will happen at 15:00 UT (check the Notes/Comments at the bottom of this page for conversion to your local time zone). That is to say, the person who signs up as a Night Scanner will scan candidates until 15:00 UT, then the person who signs up as a Day Scanner will begin scanning candidates after 15:00 UT. With the way that the system is currently set up, it is better to have a bit of a gap between the Night and Day Scanners than it is to have an overlap.

Team members who will be scanning during the California night should sign up under the appropriate Date and UT Time column. Put your name down on as many spots as you plan to scan. That is, if you plan to scan during more than one time slot, please put your name down in multiple time slots.
The scanning page is designed to have only one person using it at a time. Therefore, please only scan if your name is on the schedule, and please put your name on the schedule if you plan to scan. I am considering making some sort of a "check out" procedure for the scanning page to ensure that only one person can work on it at a time; stay tuned for further updates.

If you frequently help out with scanning and are not available on specific dates, please put your name in the "Unavailable" column to ensure that the time slots get filled.

25 January 2019 update: QZ has implemented a new deep learning technique to reduce the number of candidates that need to be scanned by about a factor of 100! The scanning website has changed, but the only other difference to scanners should be the dramatic decrease in the number of candidates that need to be scanned. If you are a "Night" scanner, please try to check the scanning page several times during your shift so we can test how running in near-real time could work.

Scanner Duties
