Transients of the Week:

  • ~20 typed Ia's this week: that's a slow week
  • ZTF21abhqirx. Semi nuclear.
  • ZTF21abhtafw. Also semi nuclear.
  • ZTF21abgxudc: Also nuclear also young!
  • ZTF21abedvkp: Overluminous, but observationally faint.

The Gemini Proposal:

  • Two ToO opportunities.
    • The first is on swift: trying to get things early, especially things that are weird. The plan here to get things very early, with plenty of scope for CC contamination. Anything <180Mpc. Young<-16.
    • Gemini program: NIR spectroscopy. 3 epochs for things which look like DD. Looking for very red objects / early bump. Anything <200Mpc.
    • Not included: "hpx" (the bump / excess candidate): although more data will be collected on this!
  • Also on the call: Ryan Lebron. UG working with Adam on swift data.

P60 / SEDm proposals:

  • Three planned proposals: RCF (led by Mat); Ia's at peak (led by Joel); lensed candidates (Suhail)
  • The call is delayed, so the deadline will likely be delayed.
  • Joel hasn't started; Mat has a draft; Suhail has a polished draft.
  • The lensers are requesting 3.5hours for confirmation photometry and spectroscopy of faint targets.
    • Can we get a host spec_z for faint objects? Would this be better than photometry? Mickael: this is doable with SEDm.
    • Suhail: let's see if we can add it to the proposal.
  • The Ia team (mostly Dublin+Adam+Joel) will pull together a candidate list to estimate how much time is required.
    • Adam, this can be done through AMPEL / Fritz, but someone needs to spearhead it.

  • Organising a SNIa sample is like an experiment: write down the steps/units.
  • The analysis is then reproducible and distributable.
    • Things like matching to BTS could break reproducibility.
  • Matches to spec_z's and phot-z's and fits light-curves to SNCosmo
    • Cuts are then made, and distances are estimated... Has lots of parameters: sigma outlier cut (4 by default), min S/N considered, etc.
    • All units are python classes; the entire thing is in a python notebook
    • The entire thing exists, can be downloaded and run. The HD looks good; scattered, but that's mostly due to redshift uncertainties.
    • The only missing thing is a T3 unit that fits alpha & beta. Valery is working on this. Unity is included.
    • For a full cosmology we need:
      • Host matching (Mat)
      • Forced-photometry
      • Photometry updates
      • Pec vel correction
      • Bias corrections
  • Let's collect together a list of ideas / requirements

  • Probably we will break for the summer in a couple of weeks.
