Palomar LGSAO Engineering Summary 09/20/05 UT Goals: 1. Close high-order loop on LGS. 2. Demonstrate pointing laser off zenith. 3. Demonstrate reliable LOWFS focus measurement. 4. Record first LGS-corrected images. Daytime results: Tested LLT focus actuators on dome floor - found uneven motion of LLT primary when moves are >500 um. Installed and cabled LLT. Laser producing 5.5W on bench. 1930 Sky cloudy: Proceeding with in-dome engineering. 1940 Trouble-shooting LLT Pulnix alignment. 2020 Testing LLT focus control via BTO software. No communication between BTO computer and LLT focus actuators. Testing connections and software. 2130 Determined most likely culprit is cabling between BTO and actuators. 2210 Also found communication problem with M1 motor controller. Had been working earlier this evening. 2300 LLT focus control now OK. Problem was incorrect actuator documentation. 2310 Preparing to shine low-power laser in dome. 2330 Aligning BTO optics. 0000 Detecting Na laser on all quad cells. 0030 Testing quad cell A/D trigger timing. 0115 Manually centering light on Quad cells. Found Q1, Q2 are far off-center. 0200 Power surge due to lightning strike caused laser to trip out. Calling night.
