Opto-mechanical Design weekly telecon.: (11/20/2007 and 1100 hrs.-1200 hrs.) ------------------------------------------------------------ DG (Mt. Hamilton) RK (UCSC) AM, VV (Caltech) JB (WMKO) ------------------------------------------------------------- CN, MB, CL didn't attend but have action items ------------------------------------------------------------- VV: Put in the telescope in the optical design. RK: Can do. DG: Requirements are different for LGS, dNIRI and TT pick-offs AM: Summary of possible mechanisms - write up something about what's available and add on the concepts. DG: Write requirements based on the need of the three pick-offs - dithering has a huge impact only on the TT pick offs (as compared to DNIRI) DG: Dither moves on DNIRI is different from others. AM: Want to finish WSPS. TWFS, TT and DNIRI FoVs? DG: Beware of the needs but not worry about details. DG: For. e.g. Jump around, jump around at this speed - have these been built in the past, can we adapt them? DG: Don't spend too much time on the instrument without understanding what the instrument group wants. DG: Just highlighting issues. DG: Switchyard at the f/46. DG: f/46 needs to have an articulated mirror. VV: NGS WFS, TWFS, possibly a PSF cam also need pick-offs (V Velur, Chris Neyman will address it!) - pass on info. about requirements to RK and CL Action Item: PSF cam requirements? wavelength == same as science. (Matt Britton, Chris Neyman) DG: JB and Chris haven't still talked about the "space tsar" position. Action Item: Get a combined drawing going this week (JB and CL). AM: Can the 150" work? JB: IS there an optical presccription. RK: Will post the 150" FoV, with the dichorics in the right order. RK : Did try 7 mm pitch in one level, it sort of works. JB: Do we need a solidworks model for the new design DG: JB and CL talk and develop solid models. Action Item: RK to write a memo about optical design and packaging in zemax. JB: The current AO system is multi-level VV/ DG: Reason for not going to multi-level is stiffer structures and athermalization design. JB: There may be more space for access. DG: It probably OK to pin down the multi-level scheme. Some people signed off --- OSM requirements issue: OSM tradestudy and OSM conceptual design. AM: 3.2.3.11 has no WSPS? ("d-IFU & LOWFS AO & Object Selection Mechanism ") 3.1.2.2.16 Already approved ("LOWFS & d-NIRI Ao and object selection") DG: 3.2.3.11 needs a WSPS -- AM needs to make up a "WSPS". AM: Just deal with LOWFS and TWFS and may happen that this may also be useful for dNIRI. DG: LGS, LOWFS (let the TWFS be in the back-burner). AM: Sean needs to write an instrument requirement. DG: AM can draft a DNIRI requirements and hand it over to SA if he wants to do it. DG: We need to write down all we can from now until Dec. AM: Positioning and clustering the issue. DG: A solid concept that can be easily made into a 3D mech. model that's what we want to be the deliver. AM: Is the title "LOWFS and LGS OSM pick off study". DG: OSM (includes DNIRI) that's what we want. DG: Prudent to cut it here and do the AO system properly. Can deal with Sci. instruments later. AM: RD said that the OSM is part of the AO system, not sure if that went well with the instrument group. Action Item: EC will decide how to complete task 3.2.3.11 Action Item: AM to just do LGS and LOWFS for now. DG/AM: Basic things like Fo Patrol, Fo View per channel. Science requirements need to get flown down. AM: Worried about observational mode, what's the accuracy of open loop and closed loop positioning? DG: Field and speed are probably the ones that we need to estimate (raise questions if clarification is needed).
