SNAP Collaborators Meeting (LLBL, from 2004-11-03 08:00 AM to 2004-11-06 06:00 PM) — by adpf

Drew Moore (RIT) talks about Python in an Astronomical Camera (Robinson 023, from 2004-09-01 04:00 PM to 2004-09-01 05:00 PM) — by adpf
Drew is an experienced electronic engineer (MSEE RIT 91) and PhD candidate (grad est. 2005) in Imaging Science at RIT. He is also a "Pythonista," i.e., a huge fan of Python. (Python is an interpreted, object oriented progamming language that many find highly productive --- often to the point of addiction ;-) For the past several years, Drew has been developing and enhancing an open-source array control system (based on an original design by Greg Burley at OCIW in Pasadena.) The system has been used at both RIT and University of Rochester to test visible and infrared astronomical detectors for NASA. Python, originally selected simply as "a replacement for FORTH," has become a significant component in the array control system. Drew will present this talk at the "Python for Scientific Computing" conference, held at Caltech the same week.
