Introduction

Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) is a prime-focus, fiber-fed multi object spectrograph for Subaru Observatory. [ more information to follow ]

JPL and Caltech are partnering with IPMU, NAOJ, LNA, JHU, Princeton, and LAM in developing PFS. JPL / Caltech responsibility is development of the Prime Focus Instrument (PFI) including the 2,400-fiber Cobra positioner. Project scientist - Richard Ellis; PFI Scientist - Michael Seiffert; JPL management - Robin Bruno; Cobra Lead - David Braun; Caltech management - Richard Dekany; PFI subsystems engineering - David Braun, Roger Smith, and Michael Seiffert;

Project Status

PFS is in Preliminary Design, having successfully passed CoDR on March 19, 2012.
