Justin Belicki: Self Encoding Electro-Permanent Magenets

belicki@astro.caltech.edu

Inductors are complicated and permananet magnets doubly so. Justin reports on a clever method to encode a magnetic latch with no additional parts. These are the latches used in the ZTF filter exchange robot, where the ability to sense engagement with the target is seen as vital to meeting the reliability requirements.
