Pavan Bilgi Concurrent Clocking

pbilgi@astro.caltech.edu

Pavan shows off a magic trick that makes most of the parallel transfer overhead disappear, allowing ZTF to take 18 more images per night. He reveals his next trick which will be to make charge traps disappear.

Questions or comments:

  • Anyone may contribute here.... Click "edit" button above-right or below
  • Check back here since Pavan will update his slide set in response to sime suggestions for improved animations and plots to clarify some points.
  • We learned the Greg Bredthauer is already using a similar scheme (or has done) and that he has a second transfer gate on some devices to support the rapid transition to a votage staircase that is necessary to allow fast transfer out of the last line.
  • Roger commented on how much he appreciated the slew rate control in the Archons, which we are using to null both the substrate currents induced by the parallel clocking and to reduce ringing after Serial clock freethroughs for fast pixels.
